Anxiety & OCD Therapist for Mums in the north east and uk-wide
Motherhood can bring a kind of worry that's hard to switch off: intrusive thoughts, constant checking, a sense that something bad will happen if you let your guard down. If that sounds familiar, you're not alone, and it is treatable.
I'm Sarah, a CBT therapist based in the North East of England. I work with mums experiencing anxiety and OCD, offering sessions online across the UK and face-to-face locally.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is recommended by NICE as an evidence-based treatment for anxiety and OCD, and it's the main approach used in the NHS. But NHS waiting lists can be long, often 18 months. I offer private support which means you can start getting support now, without the wait.
About me
Hi, I’m Sarah O’Callaghan. I’m a CBT psychotherapist and have worked within mental health for over 18 years. A former mental health nurse, I started my career working with adults with learning disabilities and went on to work in children’s mental health, specialising in children and adolescents with eating disorders.
What its like to work with me
Pregnancy, birth and early motherhood can bring up feelings you didn't expect: worry that won't settle, thoughts that frighten you, or a sense of being stuck in patterns you can't seem to break. Many mums feel they should be coping better. You don't have to work it out on your own.
In our sessions, we'll start by making sense of what's going on for you and why. From there, we'll work together on practical, manageable steps to ease the anxiety and loosen its hold, at a pace that feels right for you. Gradually, you can feel more confident, more like yourself, and more able to enjoy motherhood.
